Italian Solidarity Congress condemns U.S. blockade against Cuba

13th Congress of the National Association of Italy-Cuba Friendship (Anaic),

Rome, Nov 5 (RHC) The 13th Congress of the National Association of Italy-Cuba Friendship (Anaic), continues this Saturday in the city of Brescia, with the reaffirmation of the condemnation of the U.S. blockade against the Caribbean nation.

 

In declarations to Prensa Latina, Catia Funari, delegate of Anaic's Rome circle to this event, highlighted the assessment made by Marco Papacci, president of that organization of the work during the last four years in support of the Caribbean nation.

 

 

Funari pointed out that dozens of representatives of various organizations took part in the event, both in person and by videoconference, expressing their support for Cuba and the work carried out by Anaic.

 

Many of the presentations highlighted Cuba's recent victory in the United Nations, with the approval by 185 countries during the General Assembly of the resolution condemning the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Antillean country.

 

The video participation of MEPs Manu Pineda, from Spain, and Massimiliano Smeriglio, from Italy, the latter from Artemisa, Cuba, was highlighted.

 

Smeriglio showed the work being carried out in support of the western provinces of the country after the passage of Hurricane Ian, while Pineda referred to the example of solidarity of the Cuban people and the extraterritorial nature of the criminal U.S. blockade.

 

On her part, the Venezuelan Chargé d'Affaires in Italy, María Elena Uzzo, referred to the importance of Cuba's example for Venezuela and highlighted the relationship between the historical leaders of both nations, Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez.

 

Papacci read a message sent by the important Italian journalist and writer Gianni Miná, who stated that Cuba is a significant example of progress and advancement, highlighting the new Family Code approved in that country.

 

Messages from Cuba were received from dozens of representatives of the Cuban people, among them Gerardo Hernández, national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, as well as deputy Mariela Castro and Aleida Guevara, from the Che Guevara Study Center.

 

Maurizio Acerbo, of the Communist Refoundation, and Marco Rizzo, of the Communist Party, spoke on behalf of Italian political organizations. Also speaking were labor leaders Sergio Bassoli, of the General Confederation of Workers (CGIL) and Stefano de Angelis, of the Union Sindicale di Base.

 

 

The Italian researcher Fabrizio Chiodo spoke about his experience in the development of vaccines against Covid-19 in Cuba, and awards were given to those who contributed in an outstanding way to the sending of aid to that country to fight the pandemic, such as Alessandra Riccadonna, from the commune of Mantova and doctor Donatella Albini, from Brescia.
