Cuba denounces non-compliance with environmental commitments

Havana, Nov 11 (RHC) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced Friday on Twitter the non-compliance of developed countries with their contributions to the Fund for adaptation to the effects of climate change.

Speaking about the annual United Nations summit on climate change (COP27), which is being held in Egypt, Rodriguez called for the fulfillment of the announcements and promises made.

Created in 2001, the Fund became operational in 2007 and aims to help developing countries, which are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change, to meet the costs of adapting to this global problem.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres

UN Secretary-General António Guterres recently stated that the world's adaptation needs are estimated at between US$160 billion and US$340 billion by the end of the decade, and up to US$565 billion by 2050.

However, the developed countries' pledge of $100 billion to address adaptation has not materialized, although it was planned for 2020.

The Conference of the Parties brings together the signatory states to the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which recognizes changes to the Earth's climate and its adverse effects as a common concern.

This year, it takes place in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, from this Sunday until November 18 (Source: ACN).
