Tribute paid in Colombia to Cuban leader Fidel Castro

Bogota, Nov 25 (RHC) Colombians and Cubans paid tribute Thursday to the historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro, on the eve of the sixth year of his death.

At the Leon Tolstoy Auditorium in Bogota, representatives of the Association of Cuban Residents in Colombia, the Colombian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, and members of the official mission of our country reflected on the work of Fidel and his legacy.

Cuban academic, professor, writer, and philosopher Pablo Guadarrama, spoke about the leader's thought, whose origin emerges from universal history, the struggles for independence, and Marti's ideology.

He also highlighted the consolidation of his ideas of freedom, anti-imperialism, and solidarity.

All this materialized in one of the most important historical processes in Latin America and the world, which was the triumph of the 1959 Revolution and its socialist character.

For her part, the Cuban Consul, Raisa Casielles, recalled how the Nobel Literature Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez, who was a great friend of the leader, became interested in Cuba after the triumph of January 1, 1959.

She alluded to the book "A Grain of Corn", which brings together three days of conversations between Tomás Borge and Fidel Castro, a "document that bears witness to the charisma and strength of a character in whom the values of struggle and the vocation to search for the identity not only of the Cuban people but of Latin America as a whole, have been projected".

Lianet Cabrera, a young Cuban resident in this country and graduate of the Latin American School of Medicine, also highlighted Fidel's thinking and actions of solidarity in support of the youth of the poorest people.

Meanwhile, the young Colombian David Porras thanked Cuba and Fidel for their support of the peace processes in Colombia.

Members of the MCSC took part in the conversation amidst expressions of gratitude, admiration, and respect for the historic leader. They proposed initiatives to continue deepening the study of his thought, considering it one of the most important works of justice and love: The Cuban Revolution. (Source: Prensa Latina).
