Havana, Nov 25 (RHC) A representation of the people of the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba paid tribute to Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016) at the Santa Ifigenia patrimonial cemetery, on the sixth anniversary of his death.

The ceremony was led by Yudelkis Ortiz, a member of the Executive Bureau of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and Manuel Falcón, deputy governor of the territory.

Also in attendance were leaders of political and mass organizations in the locality, representatives of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, and combatants of the Revolution.

Lizbeth Ramírez, first secretary of the Union of Young Communists, told the Cuban News Agency that the new generations are proud to continue the work of the historic leader, and affirmed the commitment to the defense of the Homeland, study, and daily work, in order to maintain the achievements of the socialist work.

Frank Josué Solar, professor at the Universidad de Oriente and president of the Honorary Chair for the study of Fidel's thought and work, affirmed that it is the duty of all Cubans to pay homage to the man who was the architect of so many dreams fulfilled for the most disadvantaged of the Caribbean Island, such as access to health and education free of charge.

The patrimonial cemetery was also attended by Dr.C. Fidel Antonio Castro, grandson of the Commander in Chief, who placed a wreath before the monolith that holds the ashes of the leader of the assault on the Moncada Barracks (July 26, 1953) (Source: ACN).
