Japan-Cuba National Friendship Meeting

Tokyo, Dec 1 (RHC) Japanese representatives of the friendship movement with Cuba held their VII National Meeting in this capital, the embassy of the Caribbean country informed today.

During the event, held at the diplomatic headquarters, the participants paid tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on the sixth anniversary of his physical disappearance last November 25.

"The humanist work of the Commander-in-Chief is a moral reference. His imprint in defense of national independence and sovereignty, as well as his contribution to international peace and just causes in the world, continue to encourage new generations of Cubans," said Ambassador Miguel Angel Ramirez.

The head of the official mission also thanked the countless gestures of the brotherhood of Japanese people and institutions in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic and the tightening of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

The Japanese attendees acknowledged the resistance of the Cuban people in the face of its powerful challenges and ratified their support for its sovereignty and independence.

They also discussed the cultural and identity ties between the two countries and the stigmas in the Western media treatment of the Cuban reality, among other issues.

"We believe that the struggle of the Cuban people is firmly linked to all the peoples of the world who fight against the tyrannical domination, oppression, and the exploitation of the great powers", expressed in a letter Yasuhiro Tanaka, international director of the Committee for Solidarity with Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

For his part, the president of the Japan-Cuba Friendship Association, Masahiro Kudo, reaffirmed the importance of the Cuban Revolution and the will to further strengthen the ties of solidarity with the Antillean people.

From Havana, the vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Victor Gaute, thanked through a video message all the Japanese groups and individuals who accompany the island, mainly in the demand for the end of the blockade and the donations made in recent months.
