Kingstown, Dec 3 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel held official talks on Saturday with the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, as part of his visit to that nation.

The head of state expressed his gratitude for the support and solidarity of the people and government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines when his country has gone through "difficult times".

"In the most acute moments of the pandemic, the help of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines arrived, also during the explosion of the Saratoga Hotel, the fire at the Supertankers base, and the passage of hurricane Ian", said the President.

He also described as dignified and courageous the position of that country in the face of Cuba's exclusion from the Summit of the Americas. He affirmed that the new generation of Cubans with fundamental responsibilities in the leadership of the Revolution will continue to foster relations with the Caribbean.

"There is a friendship that goes beyond formalities," added the president, who also expressed that the Caribbean nation will be able to count on Cuba for everything it proposes.

Díaz-Canel discussed possibilities of increasing collaboration in areas such as tourism, food and medicine production, as well as health, culture, and the fight against natural disasters.

For his part, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves described the Cuban president's visit as historic.

"What we have done is to return what Cuba has done for us and the world; I always remember Fidel (Castro) when he told us that we do not give what we have left over, it is a principle of international solidarity," said the head of government.

During the meeting, both dignitaries ratified their willingness to maintain the high level of political dialogue and strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, informed Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez on his Twitter account.
