Marrero Cruz affirms that Cuba has a population dynamic similar to that of developed countries.

Havana, Dec 13 (RHC) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz said Tuesday that the current priorities are comprehensive care for the elderly, safe motherhood, and the causes of population mobility.

From the Havana Convention Palace, the head of government added among the main policies associated with the country's demographic situation the assistance to infertile couples, teenage pregnancy, the guarantee of safe housing, and the analysis of the availability of labor force.

During his speech at the 10th Ordinary Session of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), he defined that the core aspects that point: to fertility, mortality, and internal and external migrations, are vital in the development and strategies of the nation.

In his opinion, Cuba has a dynamic similar to that of developed countries, with a permanent incidence of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, and a follow-up of the demographic situation since the 1970s.

As part of the Economic and Social Policy Guidelines of the Party and the Revolution, various government institutions implement measures to address the aging population and encourage fertility, to ensure generational succession.

Marrero Cruz said that this indicator shows decreasing levels since in 30 years Cuba has not achieved a replacement rate and alluded to fostering the participation of the elderly, the only sector with growth, in economic and social tasks.

He also mentioned the creation of seven sub-commissions on the subject and the identification of actions for their implementation and follow-up, some of them planned for the year 2023, linked to integral life care, the introduction of technologies, and the development of new medicines.

He also stressed that these initiatives will focus on improving family care and access to housing, especially for mothers with three or more children, and young people. (Source: PL)
