Havana, Dec 20 (RHC) The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, Philip Davis, who is on an official visit to Cuba, paid tribute this Tuesday to José Martí (1853-1895), with a wreath in front of the equestrian statue that evokes his figure in Havana's 13 de Marzo park.

The distinguished visitor was accompanied by the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anayansi Rodriguez, a delegation of Foreign Ministry officials, and the diplomatic corps of the Bahamian nation in the Cuban capital.

Davis arrived in Cuba on Monday at the José Martí International Airport to hold talks with Cuban authorities and carry out other activities of interest.

Both Caribbean countries have maintained diplomatic relations since 1974, and there is a willingness to maintain those ties, according to the Foreign Minister of the largest Antillean Island, Bruno Rodriguez.

Last August, the Prime Minister of the Republic, Manuel Marrero Cruz visited Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, to participate in the First Regional Meeting of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (Caricom).

During a meeting with the Bahamian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Aviation, and Investment, Chester Cooper, they agreed on the relevance of expanding bilateral cooperation.

Every year, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas unites its vote in the United Nations in favor of lifting the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the US government.

At the 9th Peoples' Summit, Davis pronounced himself in favor of the end of this genocide and stated that it is the longest in modern times. (Source: ACN)
