Díaz-Canel emphasized that Cuba assumes the responsibility with the will to work towards the common objectives of the countries of the bloc.

Havana, Jan 12 (Web Network) The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, spoke Thursday, via video message, at the ceremony of the inauguration of the Cuban presidency of the Group of 77+China for the year 2023, which is taking place at the UN headquarters in New York.

 

The head of state stressed that Havana assumes this responsibility with the will to work on the common objectives of the countries that make up this bloc of political agreement, the largest in the United Nations.

 

This is the first time Cuba will chair this negotiating group, and among the purposes is to promote the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and foster international solidarity and cooperation in the post-pandemic context.

 

The ceremony was attended by António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the 77th session of the General Assembly, Csaba Korösi, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, whose country chaired the G77+China in 2022.

 

Afterward, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, at the head of the Cuban delegation, delivered the inaugural speech on Cuba's mandate.

 

The head of Cuban diplomacy signified the country's priorities for his mandate as the head of the political group and ratified the willingness to work constructively in multilateral processes.

 

The Group of 77 plus China brings together 134 of the 193 members of the United Nations (UN), that is, 80 percent of the world's population. The main areas in which it operates are trade, industry, food, agriculture, energy, and finance.

 

Although they may have governments of different political persuasions, they share a series of values, such as respect for international law, the promotion of democracy, and the protection of human rights. (Source: Prensa Latina)
