Browne, 55, aims to become the first executive leader to win three consecutive general elections.

Havana, Jan 19 (RHC) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez congratulated Thursday the prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, who won the general elections in his country.

In his Twitter account, the foreign minister also reaffirmed the "willingness to continue strengthening the historic ties of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation that unite both nations."

The ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) obtained 1,295 votes against 621 for Alister Thomas, of the United Progressive Party (UPP), the main opponent; and Jamel Knight, of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA).

Browne, 55 years old, hopes to become the first Executive leader to win three consecutive general elections and consolidate his position in the next five years.

Observers from the Organization of American States, the Caribbean Community, and the Commonwealth of Nations monitored the nation's electoral process.

The last general suffrage in Antigua and Barbuda was held on March 21, 2018, and Browne's party won 15 of the 17 seats. The United Progressive Party and the Barbuda People's Movement won the other two (Source: Prensa Latina).
