Havana, Jan 25 (RHC) The main challenges facing humanity in the light of José Martí's thought are the focus of a broad agenda of the participants in the 5th International Conference For the Balance of the World, to be held today in Cuba.

According to the organizers, the event is attended by more than a thousand delegates including historians, politicians, academics, trade unionists, and other personalities, moved by the need to find solutions based on the benefit of all peoples without distinctions in plural and multidisciplinary dialogue.

Today's program includes, among others, the keynote lecture "The bicentennial dispute between the Bolivarian and Martiana Doctrines and the Monroe Doctrine" by Sacha Llorenti, former vice-minister of Coordination with Social Movements and Civil Society of Bolivia.

Also outstanding is the text "Is religion the opium of people?" by Frei Betto, Brazilian Dominican friar and liberation theologian.

It will also begin the Youth Forum With all and for the good of all, focused on the role of this social sector in the present and future of humanity; and the colloquiums "History, culture and national sovereignty" and "Science, Ethics, and Humanism in the struggle for Social Justice, sustainable development and peace", among many other meetings.

This 5th International Conference For the Balance of the World, which will last until January 28, the 170th anniversary of the birth of the Cuban National Hero, is the closing of the world day in his honor, developed last year.

On the opening day, Héctor Hernández Pardo, coordinator of the José Martí Project of International Solidarity, pointed out as the maximum expression of the recognition of the hero and the validity of his thought the constant increase of participants in these conferences, since the first one, which gathered 450 delegates from 36 countries.

Likewise, Unesco's Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences, Gabriela Ramos, presented the International José Martí Award 2023 to the outstanding French historian Paul Estrade, for his extensive work in the preservation of the identity, cultural traditions, and historical values of the region, in keeping with Martí's legacy.
