Camagüey, Feb 1 (RHC) The links between Cuban and Dominican universities are strengthened today with the decoration and recognition of Dominican academics for their contributions to research in recent decades.

After a long effort to promote the exchange between the University of Camagüey (UC) and its counterpart Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), the Doctor of Science, Carmen Evarista Matías Pérez, Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Dominican Republic, received the Special Teaching Category Guest Professor of the University of Camagüey, and the Commemorative Plaque 55th Anniversary, from the house of high studies of this region of Cuba.

According to the UC's website, she has played a crucial role in the rapprochement of both institutions, ties that have their genesis with the signing of agreements between the UASD and the University of Havana, in the 90s of the last century.

"I feel very proud of both distinctions and grateful for the excellent reception of the top management and professors of this center.

"In the University of Camagüey, in Cuba, I have my second home, with which I am eternally in love. This Cuban institution has shown me the way and the importance of international collaboration, especially in postgraduate training and in scientific and academic work," she said in statements to the press.

The University of Camagüey (UC) and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Dominican Republic, bet on strengthening academic ties, within the framework of the International Congress on Higher Education held in Cuba last year.

At that time, the Cuban capital served as the setting for a working meeting between the rector of the Cuban institution, Santiago Lajes, and the vice-rector of the Dominican Republic.

At present, the University of Camagüey maintains 164 agreements around the world, including more than thirty with counterparts in the first world, with countries such as Spain, Mexico, or Canada standing out.

The insertion of 18 professors in various academic networks exemplifies the quality of the academics of the institution, integrated into the Ibero-American University Association of Postgraduate (AUIP), recognized by UNESCO, and whose objective is the promotion and development of postgraduate and doctoral studies in Ibero-America.
