Cuba's general elections will take place next March 26.

 

Havana, Feb 5 (RHC) Candidates for deputies to Cuba's National Assembly of People's Power (parliament) will be nominated this Sunday by local bodies in extraordinary sessions to be held in all the country's municipalities.

 

The municipal assemblies of the People's Power will hold extraordinary sessions to approve the candidacies after a process of individual consultations with all their members that took place from January 30 to February 3.

 

According to the Electoral Law in force in Cuba, to integrate the electoral list, each candidate must obtain more than 50 percent of the delegates' votes.

 

According to electoral authorities, 55 percent of the list to be submitted to scrutiny are women, 20 percent are young (up to 35 years old), 45 percent are blacks and mestizos, 47 percent are grassroots delegates and the average age is 46 years old. In statements to the press, the president of the National Nominations Commission, María Consuelo Baeza said between March 6 and 24, the nominees will begin a program of tours to exchange with the population they will represent.  

 

General elections in Cuba will take place next March 26 in which the 470 parliamentarians of the 10th legislature, the first with the new Constitution approved in 2019, will be elected.  (Source: PL)
