Havana, Feb 7 (RHC) Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes and the president of the Canary Islands Government, Angel Victor Torres Perez, highlighted Monday the historic ties between the two peoples and the prospects for strengthening relations.

Valdes received the top representative of that Spanish autonomous community at the Palace of the Revolution. Torres Perez is on a working visit to Havana since February 4.

During the meeting, he conveyed the greetings of President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who is carrying out other activities outside this capital, and stressed the strong ties between Cuba and the Canary Islands in the family, cultural and solidarity fields and assured that this visit will strengthen them.

For his part, the head of the Canary Islands government thanked him for the welcome and valued the progress made in projects related to tourism and clean energies, as well as the prospects of expanding air connectivity between the two territories, among other future actions.

Angel Victor Torres Perez also met this Monday with Alpidio Alonso, Minister of Culture, with whom he agreed on the satisfactory state and progress of bilateral relations.

Both also dialogued about the cultural and artistic exchange progressively implemented after the signing of a cooperation agreement during the visit to the island of Spanish president Pedro Sánchez, in 2018.
