Havana, Feb 7 (RHC) The tenth edition of the Maternity and Paternity Conference. Equal rights and responsibilities, to be held from February 14 to April 4, will address maternity and paternity processes from joint responsibility in care for the full and safe development of girls, boys, and adolescents, said Dr. Mariela Castro Espín, director of Cenesex.

Through workshops, keynote speeches, and exchanges on social networks, the conference will become a space for dialogue, reflection, and collective learning about the importance of equitable family coexistence.

Castro Espín insisted on the importance of emphasizing what it means for a society that mothers, fathers, and figures who assume guardianship and care functions are interested in their preparation, to learn about the responsibilities in the education of their children, and how to promote the full exercise of rights.

She affirmed in a press conference that the family is one of the most complex institutions in society and within them the affective, educational, and economic needs of people must be met, to ensure their survival and integral development.

It is necessary that the care and upbringing of children be assumed equally by mothers, fathers, or figures that represent the functions of guardianship and care and that the process of growing up be understood as a path of successive separations from each new skill acquired towards the autonomy, to avoid overprotection, overload, and wear, she pointed out.

Castro Espín pointed out that in our society many unhealthy conceptions, roles, and parenting guidelines persist, typical of the logic of patriarchy, which requires gradual changes in the course toward a more inclusive, equitable, supportive society, with a culture of peace and Respectful for the environment.

Arahazay Lami Hormaza, Community Work specialist at the center and coordinator of the conferences, explained that during these months there will be workshops aimed at communicators and professionals from the sectors of public health, education, law, popular power, social workers, and the Federation of Cuban Women.

She explained that among the topics under discussion are parental responsibility, care, progressive autonomy, the rights recognized in the Family Code, sexual abuse in children and adolescents, and violence in the digital scenario; likewise, a panel will be held with activists linked to community social networks.

Dr. Mirtha Cucco, author of the Methodology of Community Corrective Processes and current director of the "Marie Langer" Community Health Development Center in Madrid, said that she will share several workshops to generate transformations that bring us closer to gender equality in the family space.
