Havana, Feb 14 (RHC) Belize's Prime Minister John Antonio Briceño, valued as successful the talks with the Cuban delegation, headed by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, during his official visit to the Central American nation on Sunday.

In statements to the press, Briceño said he was very grateful to receive the Cuban president in his country, on the first visit to Belize by a head of state of the largest of the Antilles.

The Presidency of Cuba reports that, after the official talks, cooperation agreements were signed in the areas of migration and culture.

Particularly on the latter, the Belizean Prime Minister stressed that Cuba has a lot of experience in music, art, and dance, which can be shared with his country, which in turn wishes to have the opportunity to share their experiences, and that it is mutual learning.

He also highlighted the special relationship between the two nations over the years, with a special impact in the area of health.

Hundreds of Belizeans have graduated in the Greater Antilles and many of them are health professionals, he said.

He also acknowledged Cuba’s support during the most difficult moments of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"When no one knew what to do, what was going to happen, the Henry Reeve Brigade was the first to arrive in Belize and went to work with our doctors and nurses; when everyone was scared and stayed home, they were all over the country. You can't pay that with money, but it is something we will always be grateful for," he emphasized.

He added that work is being done to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries in the area of health, with Belize's interest in increasing collaboration specifically for the treatment of diabetes.

In this regard, he explained, this includes the training of medical personnel and access to Heberprot-P, a drug that is widely recognized internationally and is used in several countries around the world. (Source: ACN)
