Cuba and China

Beijing, Feb 21 (RHC) Chinese Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment Zhao Yingmin and the first vice minister of Energy and Mines of the Antillean nation, Javier Ruben Cid, met to analyze how to boost cooperation in environmental care, the fight against climate change, the use of renewable energy systems and energy efficiency, diplomatic sources confirmed today.

According to the island's embassy in the Asian country, Zhao urged to continue working to initiate actions in the short term to expand cooperation actions with Cuba in this area.

Cid highlighted the historic bilateral collaboration on these issues and thanked China for its recent support in the installation of photovoltaic systems donated for the electrification of rural areas and the maintenance of air quality.

The meeting was one of the activities of the Caribbean head of state in the context of a working visit that began last week.

Since his arrival in the Asian giant, Cid spoke with leaders of the China National Hunched Energy Group Con. Ltd. to follow up on recent cooperation agreements and reviewed the possibilities of executing projects related to the use of renewable energy sources.

The parties examined new cooperation proposals with Cubaníquel, Geominsal, and Cupet firms related to the exportable lines of these industries and the promotion of plans to expand bilateral exchanges.

Cid's visit to China aims to advance implementing the consensuses derived from President Miguel Díaz-Canel's trip in 2022.

His agenda also includes meetings with the National Energy Administration authorities, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Commerce.

Díaz-Canel made a brief and very intense visit to China from November 24 to 25, which included official talks.

The Cuban ambassador, Carlos Miguel Pereira, recently said that this trip was the initial step to resume face-to-face contact after three years of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is expected to continue to be reestablished since China-Cuban relations cover almost all economic sectors.

He said that in 2023 the intergovernmental joint commission should be held in Havana and it would be a space where the plans designed to boost exchanges between the two countries would be projected and followed up. (Source: PL)
