Havana, August 21 (RHC) -– The head of the International Sanitary Control Department at Cuba’s Health Ministry, Niurka Molina, said that the country has adopted all necessary measures to prevent the introduction on the island of the Ebola Virus, a condition affecting four western African nations.

Molina, an expert in Epidemiology, said that border controls are being undertaken while there is close communication with medical brigades working abroad, particularly in the countries experiencing the current outbreak of the disease.

Travelers check-ups upon their arrival here and a weekly report of Cuban workers abroad are part of the measures. All travelers coming from Africa, Southeast Asia, South and Central America and the Caribbean receive special attention focusing on malaria and other conditions.

Cuba has not reported any Ebola cases and it has no direct flights to the affected nations, but the introduction of the virus on the island might take place through international travelers, particularly by plane. For this reason, all efforts and measures are being reinforced by local authorities.
