Elections in Cuba

Havana, Mar 9 (RHC) The March 26 general elections in Cuba are a struggle between the country's socialist project and those who bet on its destruction.

Cuba is currently going through a severe economic crisis, aggravated during an acute stage of the Covid-19 pandemic, which was one of the elements that pushed thousands of nationals to emigrate to the United States in search of family relief following promises of official aid from that government.

Those who yearn for the collapse of the Cuban Revolution, under the leadership of the world’s most powerful nation, are pushing propaganda with truths, half-truths, and lies to shape a discourse that “may or may not be true, but the most important thing is to be credible,” its creators repeat without blushing.

In this unfavorable situation concerning the democratic model, the Cuban leadership continued the election process as scheduled and called for general elections to ratify or renew the current Parliament and its structures.

As approved by referendum, the method states that civil society proposes the short list of parliamentary candidates and the Electoral Commission makes proposals of candidacy that are submitted to scrutiny and approval by the Municipal Assemblies, which are made up of delegates who received the representation of the citizens of their neighborhood through elections.

The parliamentary candidates present their candidacies for a region of the country, and they must be approved by the people from the areas they represent. (Source: Prensa Latina)
