Norwegian Ambassador to Cuba highlights joint projects

 

 

Holguín, March 16 (RHC) The Norwegian ambassador to Cuba, Beate Stirø, discussed the different projects that unite both nations in terms of environment, culture, and energy.

During a meeting with government authorities of the province, the diplomat referred to the cooperation with the Biological Corridor in the Caribbean, an initiative of the governments of Cuba, Haiti, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic, financed by the European Union and supported by the United Nations Environment Program.

In this regard, she stated that Norwegian aid allows to carry out an exhaustive analysis of the area to develop and implement policies towards the conservation and protection of marine and land biodiversity of that region.

She also mentioned the collaboration with the Gibara International Film Festival, based in the city of the same name as the province, and the links with the Codanza contemporary dance company located in Holguin.

Stirø addressed the economic and social importance progress of the ‘Production of marine fish alevins in Cuba’, a cooperation project carried out in Mariel’s special development zone which also contributes to promoting sustainable sea aquaculture in Cuba.

In turn, Yunia Perez, deputy governor of Holguín, presented the main economic activities of the province, including tourism, nickel production, agriculture, sugar agro-industry, power generation, and the iron and steel industry.

Gabriel Pérez, director of the Holguín-Las Tunas delegation of the Chamber of Commerce, invited the ambassador to participate in the ExpoHolguín-2023 Trade Fair, which will take place between April the 4th and the 7th, encouraging alliances and alternatives in the generation of goods and services.
