Cuban Miniser of Foreign Affairs denounces slander against Cuba

Havana, March 21 (RHC) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced on his Twitter account the slander against Cuba in the United States Government's 2022 Human Rights report.

The US report claims that in "Cuba the courts have handed down draconian prison sentences to hundreds of people for protesting for their rights."

Although, paradoxically, the 2022 United Nations report on this matter explains that the United States continues to fail to meet its human rights commitments, especially in the area of racial justice, and this is reflected in the country's inability to end systemic racism linked to the legacies of slavery.

In addition, the US continues to record the highest criminal incarceration rates in the world, with nearly two million people incarcerated in state and federal jails and prisons on any given day.

Half of US police departments refuse to report use of force, which makes non-governmental data collection and analysis necessary. In 2022 alone, more than 400 people were killed by US police. On a per capita basis, the police kill black people three times as many as white people.

Additionally, large numbers of children continue to be incarcerated each year, with more than 240,000 documented detention cases in 2019, according to a report by the Sentencing Project.

A joint report by Human Rights Watch and the American Civil Liberties Union documents how America's child welfare systems too often respond to circumstances of poverty with punishment, accusing families of neglect and separating children from their parents. parents instead of providing support to help keep their families together.
