Cuban delegation fulfills work agenda in New York

 

 

Havana, March 24 (RHC) - The Cuban delegation chaired by Vice Prime Minister Inés María Chapman this Friday meets a broad work agenda in New York, United States, which includes exchanges with authorities from other countries and international organizations.

Within the scope of the United Nations Conference on Water 2023, which is in session until today, Chapman met with Sima Bahous, deputy secretary general of that body, and executive director of UN Women.

The Deputy Prime Minister also held a meeting with her Slovenian counterpart, Tanja Fajon. Both agreed on the importance of cooperation between their countries in railway infrastructure, energy and environmental protection.

In dialogue with Omar Abdi, deputy executive director of Unicef ​​(United Nations Children's Fund), the senior Cuban official thanked that agency for its collaboration during the immunization campaign against COVID-19, which was vital for the acquisition of equipment refrigeration and syringes.

For his part, the president of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH) and also a member of the Cuban delegation, Antonio Rodríguez, signed a memorandum of understanding with his counterpart from the Dominican Republic, Olmedo Caba, for cooperation in the water and sanitation.

This Wednesday, when speaking at the 2023 Water Conference, Chapman denounced that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States constitutes the main obstacle to achieving better results and to accessing external financing, new technologies and other capacities for guarantee universal and equitable access to drinking water.
