President of the Cuban Association of the United Nations

Havana, March 25 (RHC) The president of the Cuban Association of the United Nations, Norma Goicochea, highlighted the relevance of the 3rd World Forum on Human Rights that brought together more than 21,000 people from 98 countries in Buenos Aires to discuss the situation in Latin America and the world.

During the discussions, the members of the Forum analyzed neoliberalism’s negative impact on democratic processes in the region , as well as the role of civil society as an element of change and its contribution to the formulation of policies that allow a true democracy. In addition, threats to progressive and left-wing governments were denounced.

Goicochea explained that the manipulation and politicization of processes against social leaders in the region, orchestrated by the great powers and powers to prosecute and disqualify leaders such as the Argentine vice president, Cristina Fernández, and the Ecuadorian ex-president Rafael Correa, were exposed and criticized.

The Cuban representative indicated that the event was a propitious space to condemn the attempts to demonize countries of participatory democracy such as Cuba and to recognize the efforts of the Caribbean nation in the defense of the economic, social and cultural rights of its citizens.

The Forum was essential to identify Latin America’s challenges and the need to continue building public policies. (Source: Prensa Latina)
