FAO representative visits Cuba
Havana, Mar 27 (RHC) The Assistant Director General and Regional Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for Latin America and the Caribbean, Mario Lubetkin, began a visit to Cuba today.
A statement from that entity distributed in Havana during this day added that the stay has the objective of strengthening and consolidating the work with the Government to advance the food and nutritional security agenda.
During his stay on the island this Monday and Tuesday, a meeting with the Cuban President and other authorities is scheduled.
Lubetkin previously visited Panama, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, with an agenda that began with his participation in the 63rd edition of the Annual Meeting of the Boards of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and IDB Invest, which took place from 16 to March 19 at the Panama Convention Center in Panama City.
Within the framework of this meeting, the FAO representative intervened as a panelist in the Building Bridges seminar to Promote Food Security and Sustainable Energy, which was held on March 17 in the América A room of the Panama Convention Center.
The panel discussed the importance of leveraging public-private engagement to foster collaboration in improving the integration of the agri-food supply chain in Latin America and the Caribbean. Such a debate helps vulnerable populations, and contributes to global economic growth and guaranteeing food and nutritional security.
Subsequently, the regional representative of the FAO traveled to Mexico, where he held a work agenda that included meetings with the Secretaries of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard; and Agriculture and Rural Development, Víctor Villalobos, on March 21.
Lubetkin also participated in the 28th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government (SEGIB), which was held on March 24 and 25, 2023 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The 22 nations gathered adopted instruments through which Ibero-America established its position and proposed solutions to some of the main challenges facing the region. Among these challenges is the strategy to achieve food security, which proposes increasing intraregional trade and developing more resilient supply chains, among other measures.
