European Union will grant scholarships for young artists in Cuba

Havana, Mar 30 (RHC) Artistic institutions of the European Union (EU) presented today in Havana the call for the Europe-Caribbean Co-Creation Hub project, an action that will promote cultural relations between young creators of the community bloc and the Caribbean.

During the presentation, the counselor and deputy head of mission of the Italian embassy in Cuba, Giulio del Federico, stated that Havana has an intense cultural life and all the characteristics for young creators to take it as a reference space.

Open to all disciplines of art, the proposal of the National Institutes of Culture of the European Union (EUNIC) Cluster is also co-financed by the embassies of Italy, Spain and France in Havana.

Meanwhile, the director of UNESCO's Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean, Anne Lemaistre, stressed that this United Nations organization is pleased to support this idea with the aim of generating opportunities for young artists to create and contribute intercultural dialogue, social cohesion and sustainable development.

The creation scholarships are aimed at young people between the ages of 18 and 35, nationals and permanent residents of one of the EU Member States and associated countries (EUNIC members) of one of the following Caribbean nations:

Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.

The works must focus on a co-creation action carried out by a creator from Europe and one from the Caribbean, and developed in Havana together with a local partner (galleries, cultural centers, educational institutions or artist studios). These projects must be unpublished and can be presented either by the already formed Caribbean-European pairing of creators, or by the local partner.

Europe-Caribbean Co-Creation Hub has the technical advice and support of the Unesco Transculture program: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity.

During the presentation, the constitution letter of the Cluster was renewed with the Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society and the embassies of Greece, the Netherlands and Bulgaria in Havana, as new members of a group created in 2018 in Cuba with the purpose fostering cultural relations between the Caribbean island and Europe.
