Literacy program advances in Honduras with advice from Cuba

Havana, Apr 14 (RHC) - The national literacy program promoted by the Honduran government with the advice of Cuban methodologists is advancing at a good pace today, authorities reported.

The Honduran Minister of Education, Daniel Sponda, reported the day before that currently more than 30,000 people receive classes, and more than a hundred Cubans give advice using the Yo Sí Puedo teaching method.

Sponda gave his statements after a meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Ena Elsa Velázquez, who made a working visit in Tegucigalpa accompanied by the island's Vice Minister of Education, Eugenio González, and the representative of the Cuban educational mission, Clay Pérez.

The head of the Cuban educational portfolio said she held a meeting with President Xiomara Castro, to whom she ratified Cuba's commitment to accompany Honduras in the requested programs. Velázquez described the exchange with the president as very fruitful, as well as those held with the president of Congress, Luis Redondo and other ministers such as Foreign Minister Enrique Reina and the head of strategic planning Ricardo Salgado.

During the meeting with the Head of State, after conveying the greetings of President Miguel Díaz-Canel, the Cuban minister thanked Honduras for its position in international forums against the blockade imposed by the United States on the island for more than 60 years. (Source: Prensa Latina)
