Bolivian minister praises collaboration with Cuba in agriculture

Havana, April 18 (RHC) - The Bolivian Minister of Rural Development and Land, Remmy González, affirmed today that collaboration with Cuba in this sector benefits both parties in the sphere of food production.

González reported that the Bolivian side sought the support of experts from the Caribbean island in the application of bio-inputs to combat pests in agriculture without the need for substances that leave chemical residues.

He added that the Bolivian side can advise in the field of livestock and in the production of some genetically modified organisms in relation to soybeans, a cheap production that can provide protein to Cuba.

He described that Bolivian experts advised on the planting of soybeans on the island with very good reception, and that Cuban technicians also contributed to the implementation of Bio-input plants in different parts of the Andean-Amazonian country.

González stressed that the bio-inputs produced in these plants will allow control of pests and various diseases, especially in vegetables, which will allow Bolivians to consume higher-quality tomatoes without any chemical residue.

In September 2022, the president of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, Antonio Carricarte, and the former head of the International Fair of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, Oscar Mario Justiniano, held a meeting in the context of that commercial exchange.

Carricarte was received by Justiniano along with a dozen Bolivian businessmen who were fully willing to relaunch economic-commercial activities with Cuba.

The head of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce led the delegation that participated in the 31st version of the Bolivia International Business Roundtable, at the Expo Cruz 2022 Fair.

Cuba participated in this trade forum with a broad representation, also made up Alain Rodríguez, General Director of Livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture; Yoan Sarduy, President of the Livestock Business Group; and Arnaldo Gil, General Director of the Jimaguayú Agricultural Company. Luis Alberto Montoto, national coordinator of the Livestock Development project; and Danilo Sánchez, Cuban ambassador to Bolivia, also attended the forum. (Source: Prensa Latina)
