Havana, May 2 (RHC)-- Faith in Cuba's victory is only possible thanks to the solidarity of the world and the resistance of the people, said Tuesday the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

At the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba and Anti-Imperialism 200 years after the Monroe Doctrine, which took place in Havana, the head of state ratified the historic commitment to the causes defended by the Caribbean nation and not to fail the legacy of those who built the Cuban homeland at whatever cost necessary.

Díaz-Canel said that justice for all can only be achieved with socialism, a project pursued by the political leadership of the country in order to give workers a greater role in the construction of a better future.

In relation to the theme of the event, he insisted on the erroneous statements of the Monroe Doctrine, two centuries after its creation, which emphasizes domination instead of cooperation and joint progress in pursuit of development.

He recalled that the United States intends to renew this policy through unilateral actions, sanctions and blackmail to restore its hegemonic positions in the continent.

The Cuban president emphasized that Cuba's friends give ample proof of how the siege can be overcome without waiting for it to be lifted, because human solidarity cannot be blocked.

As priorities, he pointed out the importance of increasing activism and articulation in network spaces where battles are waged against the information bombardment promoted by the major news networks, and to make visible the work of groups and platforms that from abroad demand the end of hostility.

"The main motivation for the U.S. administration to maintain the blockade is to prevent the triumph of an anti-imperialist and socialist nation just 90 miles from its shores," he said.

Díaz-Canel clarified that Cuba is committed to peace, multilateralism, respect for sovereignty and dialogue for the resolution of conflicts, and as evidence of that will he announced the opening in Havana of the Third Cycle of the Peace Talks between the Colombian administration and the National Liberation Army.

"Next May 5, the friends present at the event will witness the celebration of Cuban workers with enthusiasm and unwavering faith in victory, as well as the majority support of the people to the revolutionary process," he said.

At the closing of the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, Fernando González Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, intervened and the Final Declaration was released.

The text gathers positions that coincide in the crucial role of the support of foreign friends in the survival of the Cuban Homeland in complex times, and the identification with other just causes of the planet such as Palestine, Western Sahara and Puerto Rico.

A biographical book on the figure of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was also presented by its author Fernando Moraes, and the Friendship Medal was awarded, in compliance with Presidential Decree 605, to three trade union leaders from the Dominican Republic, France and Argentina and to the Rotativist Federation of Paris.
