Vientiane, May 20 (RHC)-- A meeting with the governor of Vientiane province, Atsaphanthong Siphandone, will put an end this Saturday to the work agenda deployed this week in Laos by a delegation of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC).

The representation of the FMC, headed by its secretary general Teresa Amarelle, will also visit during its brief stay there some handicraft and weaving workshops, two traditional trades in that territory in the northwest of the country of about 16,000 square kilometers.

The top leader of the women's organization, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Council of State, arrived here last Wednesday and during her stay in the capital was received by the secretary general of the People's Revolutionary Party (PPRL) and president of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith.

At the meeting, the President considered the visit as a significant contribution to improve the good relations and collaboration between the peoples of the two countries, especially between the Lao Women's Union (LWU) and the FMC.

Thongloun called on the organizations to continue to promote collaboration, information exchange and mutual assistance in compliance with the memorandum of cooperation 2023-2027, and to play an active role in educating the younger generation on the existing good relations between the two nations.

The FMC delegation also held a meeting with the top management of the UML, headed by its president Inlavanh Keobounphanh, in which the common willingness to consolidate working ties was evident.

As part of the program of the visit, Amarelle and his companions paid tribute to the historical leader of the PPRL, Kaysone Phomvihane, and toured the museum that bears his name.

They also visited the Cuba-Laos Friendship secondary and pre-university school, located in the municipality of Dongsbang and where the first bust erected in memory of the National Hero José Martí, to whom the delegation paid tribute on the occasion of the 128th anniversary of his fall in combat, is located.

The representation of the FMC will travel tomorrow to Cambodia, the last stage of a tour that began in Vietnam and aimed at strengthening ties with women's organizations in these three Southeast Asian nations. (Source:PL)
