Havana, May 26 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel held a meeting on Friday with the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, on the occasion of his official visit to our country.

The President informed on Twitter that he spoke with Borrell about the positive results of the III Joint Cuba-European Union Council that took place this Friday in Havana.

They talked about the significant damage caused by the U.S. blockade and the inclusion of the island in the unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, to the ties between the Caribbean nation and the community bloc.

They also noted the contribution of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement (PDCA) to the progress in relations between the largest of the Antilles and the EU and its Member States, as well as the maturity achieved in addressing various issues in a respectful manner, under the principles of reciprocity and equality.

The EU High Representative also spoke today with the Minister of Justice, Oscar Silvera, on ways to strengthen bilateral alliances in legislative activity and computerization.

Cuba and the European Union relaunched their relations in 2016 with the signing of the ADPC that put an end to 20 years of the so-called common position, which conditioned the relations of the community bloc to demands considered unacceptable by the island.

This agreement made it possible to intensify cooperation and generated opportunities for exchange on issues of mutual interest such as human rights, unilateral coercive measures and sustainable development.
