Havana, June 3 (RHC) The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, held a bilateral meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, this week with Mapisa Nqakula, president of the South African parliament.

At the meeting, both parties advocated the strengthening of parliamentary ties between Cuba and South Africa, while recognizing the solidity of solidarity ties between both countries.

On the Cuban side, Enrique Orta González, Cuban ambassador to South Africa, and Rodolfo Benítez Verson, general director of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of Minrex, were also present.

The dialogue took place on the occasion of Peñalver's attendance at the meeting of foreign ministers of the BRICS Friends countries, in Cape Town, which Cuba attended in its capacity as president of the Group of 77 plus China.

The Cuban first deputy minister also held a meeting with South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor. Both parties ratified the will to strengthen political dialogue and cooperation between Cuba and South Africa.

The Cuban diplomat also held a dialogue, described as fraternal, with Solomon Lechesa, vice president of the South African Parliament; and with members of the Society of Friends of Cuba, among them the priest Michael Lapsley, in which they agreed to strengthen the spirit of solidarity between the two peoples.

The South African attendees ratified their unconditional support for the Cuban Revolution and the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.   (Source: PL)
