Luanda, September 4 (RHC) -- Angola has reiterated the necessity to end the over 50-year-old U.S. economic, trade and financial blockade on Cuba.

Angolan Foreign Minister, Georges Chikoti, highlighted his country's position during a meeting with Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister, Ana Teresita González, who is in Luanda on a working visit.

According to a Prensa Latina report, Chikoti said “we disagree with this (blockade) policy and we will discuss this topic in the United Nations General Assembly,”
Chikoti and the Cuban official reviewed cooperation agreements and identified some other areas of interest in which both countries could collaborate.

González confirmed Cuba's support for Luanda's candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, from 2015 to 2016. “We are confident Angola will play an important role in the defense of multilateral ideas and the interests of the Third World,” the Cuban visitor said.

The Cuban deputy foreign minister also met with Roberto de Almeida, Vice President of Angola's ruling party, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA).
