Cuba benefits from Malaysia's South-South collaboration
Havana, Jun 30 (RHC) Young professionals from Cuba have benefited in recent years from the training courses of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program, which today acquires a new dimension.

"This plan was established in 1980 as part of Malaysia's commitment to South-South Cooperation, with the aim of sharing its technical knowledge and development experiences with developing nations," recalled Chenderawasih Abdul Malek, business manager at the Embassy of Malaysia in Havana.
The diplomat led a meeting at the mission headquarters with Cuban professionals graduated from the MTCP courses who formed an association to keep in touch. This Friday they celebrated their 20th anniversary.
The MTCP postulate is based on the fact that the development of a country depends on the quality of its capital and human resources. It emphasizes professional training through short courses at Malaysian public and private institutions, as well as longer curricula at state universities. Other forms of assistance include study tours, practical work and provision of expert services.
Each year the MTCP offers more than 100 registrations in various areas. To date, more than 35,000 young professionals from 144 nations, including the Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, have benefited from these technical training courses.
From Havana, the Embassy of Malaysia attends to consular and diplomatic affairs as concurrent in the Bahamas, Haiti, Jamaica, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.
The business manager explained that 76 Cubans graduated from the MTCP, while 36 Jamaicans, 12 Bahamians and six Dominicans have done so.
Chenderawasih announced that starting this year, in addition to the courses, the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program will provide scholarships to those interested in increasing their professional skills and abilities. (Source: PL)
