Havana, Jul 27 (RHC) The Cuban ambassador to Sri Lanka and concurrent in the Maldives, Andrés Marcelo González, exchanged in Malé, Maldives, with the authorities of the small archipelago about relations and cooperation with the Caribbean island.

During his visit to Malé to participate in the activities for the 58th anniversary of the independence of the Maldives, González congratulated Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid on the important date in a meeting in which they discussed bilateral ties.

He also met with the Minister of Public Health Kerafa Naseem to examine the development of Cuba's medical collaboration in the South Asian territory, which they described as positive.

On the occasion of attending the official reception, González conveyed to the country's president, Ibrahim M. Solih, and his wife Fazna Ahmed, as well as Vice President Faisal Naseem, the congratulations of the Caribbean nation on such an important date.

Cuba and the Maldives, in addition to a close diplomatic relationship, share the will to continue strengthening the ties of friendship and bilateral cooperation and contacts between their peoples.

Both countries also agree, in their position as island states, on the need to strengthen collaboration in tackling common challenges in the face of climate change and in other sectors.

Cuba currently maintains a medical brigade in the Maldives, with professionals who cover health areas in the capital Malé and the islands that make up the small archipelago. (Source: PL)
