Cuba reiterates Tolerance Zero for any type of human trafficking

Havana, July 31 (RHC) The Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU) reiterated today its support for the national policy of " Tolerance Zero" for any form of trafficking in persons, in line with United Nations resolutions on the subject.

The ACNU, a Cuban civil society organization that brings together 142 collective members and more than 320 individual members, congratulated through a statement the excellent performance of the island in prevention, confrontation and protection of victims.

The text, on the occasion of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, celebrated the day before, stressed that Cuba has gained prestige in this sphere, as a result of the combined action of the different national actors.

For this reason, the organization rejected and condemned the political nonsense of the US administration that seeks to discredit the Caribbean nation on this issue.

The statement also denounced the references to the island contained in the last annual Report on Human Trafficking of the United States Government, which are part of the hybrid war that is applied against the Cuban nation.

The Association reiterated in the text its commitment to continue fighting this scourge and supporting the Tolerance Zero policy at the national level, in addition to making visible and confronting one of the most serious problems facing the international community.

Among the factors that contribute to the permanence of this scourge globally, the ACNU mentioned that the Covid-19 pandemic aggravated systemic economic and social inequalities.

Likewise, he text explained that the prevailing unfair international economic order, crises of a different nature, wars, conflicts and climate change, are also among the causes that make it possible.

It also reaffirmed that combating this problem contributes to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals, which also call for the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls, combat organized crime and eradicate forced labor, abuse, exploitation and violence suffered by children.

The General Assembly of the United Nations, through its resolution 68/192, decided to designate July 30 as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, given the need to create greater awareness of the situation of victims of trafficking in persons and of promote and protect their rights.
