Important Cuban hotel chain celebrates 29 years

Havana, Aug 1 (RHC) The Gran Caribe de Cuba Hotel Group celebrates its 29th anniversary today with the prospect of expanding its radius of action and strengthening four and five-star establishments.

As stated in the company's official reports, Grupo Hotelero Gran Caribe S.A., a Cuban-national mercantile company, was created on August 1, 1994. The firm was established as an entity awarded to the Ministry of Tourism. Its flagship establishment, at the same time the leader of the Cuban hotel industry, is the emblematic Hotel Nacional de Cuba, which opened its doors in 1930.

This accommodation firm has more than 12,000 rooms in 45 hotels throughout the country, especially in terms of classic, historic hotels, unique architectural richness, and national monuments.

In particular, it covers presence in Havana, Playas del Este of the capital, Varadero, Cienfuegos, Santiago de Cuba, and Largo del Sur, Guillermo and Coco keys.

For example, in Varadero, the main sun and beach resort in Cuba, it operates with 12 facilities such as the Mystique Casa Perla and the Kawama Club, with particular emphasis on the Meliá Internacional.

In addition, its hotel network has attractions in facilities located on the seafront, options such as the El Eclipse viewpoint bar in Sunbeach and the Casa Perla.

Another of the hotels with a historical tradition is the Casa Granda in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba, or the Jagua in the Cienfuegos power plant, together with the oldest in operation in this archipelago, the Inglaterra (1844).

The Gran Caribe facilities have an inventory of around 840 heritage works, including some of great celebrity such as the Santa Clara battery at the Hotel Nacional.

This artillery battery was proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a World Heritage Site. Added to this is the gigantic ceramic mural created by the Cuban painter Amelia Peláez (1896-1968) that decorates the façade of the Tryp Habana Libre.

Another of these works of art is the sculpture by Cuban artist Florencio Gelabert (1904-1995) that distinguishes the Hotel Habana Riviera in Havana (1957). (Source: PL)
