Cuba regrets the effects of Typhoon Doksuri in China and the Philippines

Havana, Aug 2 (RHC) The Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, sent this Wednesday solidarity and condolences to the peoples and governments of China and the Philippines for the havoc caused by Typhoon Doksuri.

Through his Twitter account, the foreign minister sent condolences to the families and relatives of the victims and wished those affected a speedy recovery.

According to China's flood prevention authorities, two people died during the storms in Beijing, and 52,384 were relocated to safer places.

In addition to the closure of 107 highways in mountainous areas, more than 4,000 construction sites ceased their work and all rural tourist attractions also remained inoperable.

Some districts of the Chinese capital remain on red alert for storms as rainfall is expected to exceed 100 millimeters per hour. The authorities warned of possible flooding of small and medium rivers, as well as landslides.

Doksuri, the fifth typhoon this year, affected more than 725,000 people in the eastern Fujian province and previously wreaked havoc in Taiwan and the Philippines.

The Philippine Department of Agriculture reported that it has drawn up strategies to recover from the losses caused by the super typhoon and the rise of the southwest monsoon in important rice-producing areas.

According to data from that entity, the hydrometeorological phenomenon affected 163,722 farmers and fishermen, with a total volume of production loss of 98,217 metric tons and 163,722 hectares of agricultural areas. (Source: PL)
