Women's Pan-American Mathematics Olympiad closes in Costa Rica

Havana, Aug 11 (RHC) The Pan American Girls’ Mathematics Olympiad (PAGMO) will announce this Friday the winners of this third edition of the contest, in which 14 countries participate.

The event welcomes participants from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Costa Rica as the host country.

Cuba is represented by Dalia Oliver, a tenth grade student at the Ernesto Guevara Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences in the province of Villa Clara, and Professor Amalia García.

Coming from the Central American Mathematical Olympiad, held last week in El Salvador, the Cuban student won a silver medal in that event.

This edition of PAGMO in Costa Rica, which is being held in person for the first time after two virtual events, requires that participants must be citizens or residents of the country they represent, and be selected through the national Mathematical Olympiad or a selection process. equivalent.

Those selected must be enrolled in full-time pre-university education, not have reached the age of 18 at the time of their participation in the contest or compete in another PAGMO event.

Neither can she have won a medal in the International Mathematical Olympiad, nor in the European Women's Mathematical Olympiad.

The goal of the Pan American Olympiad is to provide more girls with the opportunity to perform mathematically on an international stage, and thus discover, encourage, and challenge talented young women in this science in all countries of the Americas. (Source: PL)
