Maputo, August 25 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, on an official visit to Mozambique, said today during a meeting with his counterpart Filipe Jacinto Nyusi that this is an intimate trip, according to the island's presidential Twitter account.
According to the social network, the Cuban president assured that there is a brotherly affection between both nations, hence being in the country was a longing that had to be postponed in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, said the Twitter account of the Presidency of the island.
Díaz-Canel recalled that next August 27 marks 48 years of bilateral relations, characterized by close ties of friendship and cooperation.
Nyusi, for his part, confirmed the invitation of the head of state of the Caribbean nation to travel to Havana and participate in the Summit of the Group of 77 and China, an important event to be held on September 15 and 16.
Both delegations evaluated the current bilateral cooperation and discussed the necessary mechanisms to deepen and strengthen relations, according to the website of the Mozambican Presidency.
The Cuban president arrived in this capital from South Africa, where he participated in the Brics Summit on behalf of the G-77+China and held meetings with solidarity groups with the island.
During his stay in Mozambique, the president will visit the Assembly of the Republic and lay a wreath at the Heroes' Square in the city of Maputo.
He will also visit the Marcelino dos Santos Clinic, the embassy of the island in this country and the Ponta Vermelha Palace.
A meeting with collaborators from the Caribbean nation working here, representatives of solidarity movements and Cuban residents is scheduled for tomorrow.
The history of cooperation between the two countries is marked by the friendship between the first Mozambican president and independence fighter, Samora Machel, and the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, who visited the city of Beira in March 1977.
From those early moments to the present, the ties between the two nations have been close.
Many Mozambicans have benefited from their cooperation, both for the contribution of Cuban cooperants in different spheres of economic and social development, as well as for the training of thousands of young people from this country in Caribbean lands. (Source:PL)
