Windhoek, August 26 (Prensa Latina)-- Namibian President Hage Geingob today expressed his satisfaction in welcoming his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, as guest of honor at this year's Heroes' Day commemoration.

"We honor our brothers and sisters in Cuba for their heroic sacrifices that led to our freedom," the Namibian leader wrote on the X network, formerly known as twitter.

The Cuban president begins today an official visit to the Republic of Namibia as part of a tour that previously took him in that capacity to Angola and Mozambique, as well as, as president of the G77 and China, to South Africa to participate in the 15th BRICS Summit.

Heroes' Day in this country is recognized by the United Nations as Namibia Day.  It honors those who lost their lives in the war of national independence, which began on that date in 1966.

Díaz-Canel is, in this 33rd celebration to be held in the capital's Independence Stadium, the guest of honor of the event, in which the central words will be pronounced by Geingob, according to the program.
