Diaz-Canel concludes visit to Namibia

Havana, August 28 (RHC) -- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has ended his visit to Namibia and also the tour of Africa where he completed a tour of three other African nations, official sources reported today.

The president, together with the delegation accompanying him, was bid farewell in the Namibian capital, Windhoek, by President Hage Geingo with whom he held official talks, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez reported on the social network X, formerly Twitter.

Previously, the head of state of the Caribbean island participated in the BRICS Summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), and, in that context, made official visits to Angola, Mozambique and Namibia.

In Windhoek, Díaz-Canel attended as guest of honor the ceremony for the Day of Heroes of the African nation, and paid tribute to heroes and heroines of Namibia, Angola and Cuba, "who paid with their blood the road to independence and put an end to the odious apartheid regime," said the president.

He also received from the hands of his Namibian counterpart the "Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis", Namibia's highest decoration. Bilateral agreements were also signed to strengthen mutual ties.

Within the framework of the visit to Namibia, the Cuban foreign ministers, Bruno Rodríguez, and his counterpart of that African country, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, signed three agreements to strengthen cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations, informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the island.

The documents, signed in the presence of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Namibian President Hage Geingob, include a memorandum of understanding between the Namibian Ministry of Trade and the Center for the Promotion of Foreign Trade and Investment of the largest of the Antilles.

A few hours before leaving for Cuba, President Díaz-Canel met with collaborators working in Namibia, including doctors, engineers, architects, who together make up a brigade of just over one hundred Cubans.

Before leaving, the Cuban president said goodbye through his account on the social network X, formerly Twitter, to the people and government of Namibia.

"We say goodbye to Namibia and Africa with emotions high and deep. For those who gave their blood yesterday and those who offer their collaboration today" wrote the Cuban president in the social network.(Source: Varias)
