Havana, September 10 (RHC) -- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel recalled on Sunday the leadership of "admirable doctor" Agostinho Neto, who died on this day in 1979, after devoting his last energies to his beloved Angola.

This was stated by the Cuban leader in his X account, formerly Twitter, where he also alluded to his recent visit to the brother country, as part of a tour of nations in the African continent.

"There we got to know him (Neto's leadership) better recently by touring his memorial and sharing with the heirs of his political legacy. The struggle continues," he wrote.

Neto, who was a doctor, politician, poet and president of the Popular Movement of Angola (MPLA, 1962-1979), was the first president of that nation and is considered a National Hero of Angola every anniversary of his birth or death.

On Angolan soil, Díaz-Canel recently confirmed the close brotherhood that unites both nations and ratified his government's will to bring economic and commercial ties to the level of excellent political and diplomatic relations.

The Cuban president held, on that occasion, official talks with his peer João Lourenço and meetings with representatives of the solidarity movement with the Caribbean island and Cuban nationals residing there, among other activities. (Source:PL)
