Havana, September 15 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said that it is up to the countries of the South to change the rules of the game, at the opening today of the Summit of the Group of 77 (G77) and China.

At the Havana Convention Palace, where representatives of more than a hundred nations are meeting this Friday and Saturday, the president said that the developing countries that are members of this bloc demand the pending democratization of international relations.

According to the head of state, such right is theirs because the members of the G77 are the main victims of the current multidimensional crisis of the world, the abusive unequal exchange, the gap in the exchange of knowledge and the depletion of natural resources, among other problems.
Speaking before the delegations attending the meeting, which included dozens of heads of state and government, Díaz-Canel said that they have the immense responsibility of representing the interests of most of the nations of the planet.

We keep the original name, but we are much more than 77, he added in reference to the fact that the grouping is made up of 134 countries, which represent more than two thirds of the United Nations and 80 percent of the world's population.

The Cuban president said that meeting at a summit gives the leaders of those territories the opportunity to deliberate collectively and at the highest political level in defense of the interests of that majority, as well as to unite positions in the face of the challenges of development.

We are more and more diverse, added Díaz-Canel, who recalled the renowned Uruguayan poet Mario Benedetti when he said that "the South also exists".
