Havana, Oct 17 (RHC) The José Martí Cultural Society (SCJM) and the Eight Goals One Foundation (8one) of India, today invite to celebrate the 28th anniversary of the Cuban organization, founded on October 20, 1995.

The national headquarters of the cultural institution, located in Vedado, Havana, will host the activity where founding members and friends of the cultural society will be honored and the official website of the National Program for the Study and Promotion of Martí's Ideology and the digital library Patria Libros will be presented.

The meeting, convened in conjunction with the system of Martian institutions, will end with the presentation of the 66th edition of the cultural magazine Honda, which will be available on the web portals presented for free download.

The José Martí Program website is also the portal of the National Program for the Study and Promotion of Martí's Ideology as a whole: its historical evolution, members, networks, projects, news and contacts.

The portal is an information center to facilitate national and international access to Cuban entities. It also makes visible their activity related to the life, work and example of José Martí and his presence in the world.

Patria Libros, for its part, is a free and open access digital library dedicated to Cuban literature and inspired by the National Hero of Cuba.

The library is one of the results of the collaboration project between the José Martí Cultural Society and Eight Goals One Foundation: Homeland Projects: for digitalization and the creation of networks, which aims for the development of Cuba and the lives of Cubans.

Patria Libros is developed by students and professionals under the guidance of important academics, artists and cultural promoters. It supports participating authors and national entities as it improves international access on foreign servers, contributes to the organization and consolidation of Cuban literature and publications in all collaborating institutions and their archives, and develops a methodology of digitalization taking into account the needs and challenges of Cuban society.

The José Martí Cultural Society was created by prestigious Cuban intellectuals such as Armando Hart, Cintio Vitier, Roberto Fernández Retamar, Eusebio Leal, Abel Prieto and Enrique Ubieta. It is a non-profit organization whose public relations body is the Martí Program Office, and it also has special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

Eight Goals One Foundation is an entity co-founded by Ramit Singh Chimni, president of the UNESCO/José Martí International Prize Jury. It has projects in several regions of the world and addresses eight objectives: well-being, gender equality, peace, environment, hygiene, nutrition, education and employment.

It also has links with government representatives from several countries, intergovernmental organizations, as well as with different universities and development agencies around the world for the development of policies and initiatives in social sectors. (Source: PL)
