Prensa Latina participated in the Belt and Road Media Cooperation Forum as a board member of the  Belt and Road News Network

Havana, Oct 19 (RHC) Prensa Latina proposed today to establish a regular communication mechanism and improve ties between media members of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The news agency, which has about 40 correspondents around the world and is headquartered in Cuba, is a board member of the Belt and Road News Network, which organized the Belt and Road Media Cooperation Forum in Beijing.

During his speech at this forum, the president of Prensa Latina, Luis Enrique González, urged to improve the links between the media and member organizations in terms of content exchange, joint production, training of journalists and mutual support.

He noted that Prensa Latina has been an alternative to the hegemonic media for 65 years, so the opportunities for cooperation offered by China and its links with Latin America have been present on its editorial agenda. He also pointed out that the agency prioritizes the publication of events that represent the Global South and developing countries.

In González’s opinion, the Belt and Road News Network represents an important space where more than 230 media outlets and international organizations with their aspirations for a multipolar world converge.

He said the Cuban agency is ready to work with everyone in the construction of content committed to the truth, that promotes knowledge and the responsible use of information technologies and artificial intelligence. He urged to work together to promote the vision of a sustainable world with green development, in which different civilizations coexist in peace.

The director also invited representatives and journalists from the world's media to participate in the Operation Truth event, which will take place in Havana next January as part of the celebrations for the 65 years of Prensa Latina.

The first prize ceremony for the Belt and Road News Network contest was also held at the Media Cooperation Forum, in which Prensa Latina correspondent Yolaidy Martínez was among the finalists.

This event was preceded by the high-level meeting that brought together representatives from 140 nations and 41 international organizations in China to address the results of the BRI 10 years after its implementation. (Source: PL)
