Havana, November 2 (RHC) -- Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, participated the day before in the commemorative ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZED).
The celebration was also attended by other authorities of the largest Antillean Island, Cuban Television News reported in its prime-time broadcast.
The ZED-Mariel is the first enclave of its kind in Cuba and enjoys a privileged geographical position, in the center of the Caribbean Sea, crossroads of the main routes of maritime traffic of goods in the western hemisphere.
The enclave provides a first-class productive and logistics platform, which facilitates a higher level of domestic production, while reducing import costs, boosting growth, creating jobs and facilitating foreign direct investment. (Source:ACN)
