Luanda, November 11 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel today sent a message of congratulations to his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the country's independence.

"I send you my warmest congratulations, while ratifying my determination to continue strengthening the historic relations of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between our peoples and governments," said the Cuban president's letter.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez also congratulated his Angolan counterpart, Téte António, on the occasion, according to a statement released by the Cuban Embassy in Luanda.

"On the occasion of the National Celebration of the Republic of Angola, I congratulate you and reiterate my desire to continue strengthening the historic relations of friendship, solidarity and cooperation that distinguish the ties between our two nations," reads the message.

On November 11, 1975, Angola finally declared its independence from Portuguese colonialism, after 14 years of armed struggle for its liberation.

On this occasion, the central event for the anniversary will be held in the province of Lunda-Sul, whose agenda of celebrations includes the inauguration of infrastructures such as the largest bridge in the region, built over the Muangueji River and valued at more than nine million dollars.

The motto of this year's festivities is November 11: United for the development of the country. (Source: Prensa Latina)
