Dubai, November 30 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel ratified Thursday the willingness to strengthen the country's ties with its nationals abroad, in a meeting held with Cubans living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The meeting highlighted that most of the Cubans living in the UAE live in Dubai, and that 20 years ago this group was very small in the Arab nation.

Díaz-Canel affirmed that the link with his fellow countrymen is a permanent practice in all working visits to different latitudes, and reflected on the meetings of this type initiated by the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, which were continued by Army General Raúl Castro.

He pointed out that this was expressed in the IV Conference The Nation and Emigration, recently held in Havana, and noted that "it will be necessary to change the name of the event: not to speak of emigration but rather of Cubans living abroad, with whom there should be no prejudice whatsoever".

He said that the new Cuban Constitution and the recently approved Family Code are examples of regulatory bodies in which the opinion of those who live outside Cuba but feel they are children of the nation has been taken into account.

The president explained the essential motivations of his official working visit to the UAE, where he is participating in the 28th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP28), and commented on the official conversation held with the dignitary of the host country and Emir of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The participants expressed their gratitude for the attention of the Cuban embassy and for Cuba's stance in defense of peace in the Middle East and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination  (Source: Prensa Latina).
