Havana, December 4 (RHC) -- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel visited Monday the Pasteur Institute of Iran, a research center that maintains a close relationship with Cuban science.

During the tour of the facilities, the head of state described as an honor to be in that institution of excellence, which demonstrates that collaboration is the model to follow when it comes to the health of the peoples, reported the Presidency of Cuba in its X profile.

"We have come this far because of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, who is present as an expression of the solidarity he taught us," Díaz-Canel stressed.

In the context of the visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Pasteur and Finlay Vaccine Institutes that will allow for increased cooperation in the field of biotechnology.

The two scientific centers have had a model of cooperation for several years and during the COVID-19 pandemic, alliances were strengthened based on the Cuban immunogen 'Soberana'.

The Cuban leader affirmed that there is a commitment to strengthen the links that unite us, for the welfare of our peoples.

As part of the official visit to Tehran, Diaz-Canel was received on Monday by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

The parties fondly evoked the historic meeting with Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016), 22 years ago.
