Camagüey, September 22 (PL-RHC) –- Reflecting legends and interpreting the external and internal world that surrounds them is the objective of the ceramic exhibition entitled Estos Niños Pintan Sus Vidas (These Children Paint Their Lives), which was inaugurated in the framework of the International Day of Peace on Sunday. Artist Ivan Lopez, who sponsors the initiative, explained that the project started on April 4, 2011 to stimulate creation by children with special needs.

The 40 ceramic artworks created by 11 children are on display at the local headquarters of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) in Camagüey, some 570 kilometers east of Havana, to commemorate the International Day of Peace, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981.

Curator and art critic Jorge Santos Caballeros told Prensa Latina that beyond its emotional scope, the project enriches these children's lives through its artistic and humanitarian goal.

The children involved in the Cuban project Barro en Alas de Mariposas (Clay in Butterfly Wings) paint what they see and feel, they paint their lives and imagination, and that, Santos said, opens their horizons and boosts their expectations of life.
